Steve DePass is a Poet, Singer, and Composer. Apparently born with words in his mouth. Steve DePass was rhyming from the moment he could speak and performing on Broadway with Jimmy Durante at five years old. Nelson Rockefeller, who was then the Governor of New York, dubbed Steve America’s Singing Poet and brought him to the White House to perform when he became Vice President.
Steve kept the title and has not only played for many Presidents but in venues all over the world. Born in New York City, Steve returned to their native West Indies as a Child and learned the lessons of love that became the driving force behind his music.
In Concert and Night Clubs Steve creates much of his show and is a master of improvisation! He actually invents songs on the spot, from the top of his head or from topics suggested by the audience. These Songs are Witty, Poignant, Satirical, Humorous or Philosophical, and often contain complicated rhyme schemes and sophisticated ideas.
Yet, Amazing as his ability to create Instant songs, this is only part of his act. Steve’s stock consists of songs of special material. A brilliant composer, his songs are interesting and unique; songs of love and social commentary. Governor Nelson Rockefeller once referred to Steve Depass as the “Carl Sandburg of our time.”
Steve DePass has delighted audiences around the world, He has performed for four U.S. Presidents including John F Kennedy, Linden B Johnson, Richard Nixon & Gerold Ford. Steve has also performed for The Queen of England, Broadway, and Network Television including The Tonight Show, Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, Jack Parr Show, Jerry Lewis Telethon, Carnegie Hall, Las Vegas, Liberace Tour, Boston Pops, Fortune 500 Companies for Corporate America including Johnson & Johnson, IBM, Union Carbide, Ciba-Geigy & Many More..
